Unica are deep and full of mystery
Description
The Unica, with its surrounding countryside, is without doubt
the most beautiful chalk stream of continental Europe. Its winding
paths, unaltered by the hand of man, meanders through meadows, which
in summer become carpets of flowers, many of them botanical rarities.
No power cables or other unsightly electrical installations disfigure
this superb environment. Parts of the Unica are deep and full of
mystery. Whilst on other stretches the river flows briskly over gravel
and pebbles offering the angler easy access and comfortable wading. We
recommend that all fishermen pay a visit to the sources of this
fabulous stream, the swift Malenscica and the powerful Pivka along
with the natural caves which are unique in Europe. In spring the Unica
often floods the surrounding meadows forming a shallow lake affording
plenty of food for all types of fish. Before the introduction of
grayling, the Unica was famed throughout Europe for the abundance of large trout.
Today the grayling prevails but thanks to the efforts of the Slovenian
Fisheries Research Institute, a better balance between trout and
grayling is being achieved with a far greater number of quality trout
being caught. Some of these trout show signs of the strain of marble
trout stocked in the river many years ago. It is true to say that the
trout of the Unica are amongst the most beautiful in Slovenia, both in
size and color. The Unica is justly famed for its prolific insect
life, large hatches of mayfly occur at the end of May and continue for
some duration. Sedges and stoneflies also hatch in very large numbers.
The Unica is a unique and rare river and no effort will be spared to
preserve it for future generations.

Unica is managed by Fisheries Research Institute Of Slovenia.
Fishing is allowed in entire stream.
On the Unica from the bridge (road Rakek - Planina) downstream to the bridge
(road Planina-Laze) use of dry flies only is allowed. Barbless hooks only should
be used.

Fishing methods
Fishing is allowed by using one fly rod and one fly only, barb less
hooks should be used only.
Catch & Release
section: Captured fishes must be immediatly
unharmed released.
Fishing from bridges is not alowed!
Wading is the most common technique along streams and rivers.
Hip boots are handy on small streams or in high season when the waters are low,
but chest waders are needed on the large rivers. Felt-soled wading shoes or
boots are recommended.

Measurements & Season
Daily bag
One Grayling or one Brown trout.
Daily bag can contain only one salmonid over 50 cm!
After daily bag is landed all
fishing must stop!

Guiding
Guiding is possible for all rivers and lakes. Maximal 5 Persons is
allowed for one guide. Price!

lake. There are several different types of fishing ticket.
