I left my heart in Bohinj

Tolmin Gorges

An old-timer train with an old steam engine from the times of our grandfathers and grandmothers will take you down the "Bohinj railway", one of Slovenia's most attractive tracks.

Already the first stop will take your breath away: opening up a magnificent view of Slovenia's Alpine pearl - lake Bled. Further down the way we'll be passing by Bohinjska Bistrica and on to Most Na Soci in the Tolminsko region, crossing countless bridges and tunnels. This is a land of sunny, green Alpine pastures reflecting in the waters of the Soca river, longing for the sea in the distance, inviting admiration, discovery and exploration.

The kind locals will greet us with laughter and music, and let us go on our way with a dream of brandy. We'll take a bus to Tolmin, a town on the confluence of the wild Tolminka river and the already calm Soca. Tolmin is best known for its medieval castle on Kozlov Rob and the legendary peasant uprising. Soon we'll be looking at a picturesque alpine treasure - the marvelous Tolmin Gorges, located within the Triglav National Park protected area. Word has it that this is where Dante Alighieri, the greatest Italian poet, got his inspiration for the Divine Comedy. Just the right setting to see Hudicev Most (Devil's Bridge) and take a walk to the World War I. Soca Front (Isonzo Front) military cemetery.

A relaxed lunch picnic in the outdoors will be more than welcome after all this. Music, games and prize drawing will add to the fun. Those who don't care much for all this loud fun will be able to enjoy the moment in a soothing walk through the countryside.

We'll return to Most Na Soci quite pleasantly tired and there Captain "Old Lake Wolf" will take us down the Caribbean-blue Soca lake in his "Mississippi river boat" Lucija, telling age-old stories of the local people. Before returning to the old-timer train, the Captain will find the most amorous couple and give them a traditional maritime wedding.

If you wish, you will also have the possibility of ordering "evidence" in the form of a photography, showing everyone that the sunny trip to the Tolmin Gorges in an old-timer train is not just a dream you had.
